India is the world's largest producer of spices. It is also the world's top importer and exporter of spices. Over the last few years, the manufacturing of many spices has increased considerably. The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) lists 109 kinds of which India produces approximately 75. Pepper, cardamom, chilli, ginger, turmeric, coriander, cumin, celery, fennel, fenugreek, garlic, nutmeg & mace, curry powder, spice oils and oleoresins are the most often manufactured and exported spices. Chilli, cumin, turmeric, ginger, and coriander account for around 76% of total production.

Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Assam, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala are the top spice-producing states in India.

India exports spices and spice products to 180 countries around the world. China, the United States, Bangladesh, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, and Germany were among the top destinations.



Distribution & Uses


India mostly exports chilli, turmeric, cumin, coriander, pepper, fenugreek, ginger, fennel, nutmeg & mace, celery, small and large cardamom, garlic to the United States, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Japan, Nigeria, Nepal, Germany, France, England, Japan, and Australia. Spice canvases and oleoresins, as well as mint products, reckoned for 35 of total import earnings. Chilli reckoned for 24 of the aggregate, with cumin account for 11, pepper account for 9, and turmeric account for 5. When compared to the same time previous year, the import of Cardamom( Large), chilli, turmeric, coriander, cumin, fenugreek, garlic, other eclectic seeds, vanilla, curry greasepaint, spice canvases & oleoresins, and mint products has increased in both volume and value.
